10 tips for bloggers (newbies)

I wish I could find the page from someone I am following yesterday who wrote an article containing 10 tips for Newbie Bloggers.  If you are the author and see this, please contact me so I can give you thanks personally!  My page is so much better, but i did not bookmark your suggestions and did not complete entire list.  The first thing removed was the widget for my station which was biggest culprit slowing page loading; I changed settings that I receive e-mail notifications when I receive a comment so that i will not appear rude (now I know); I changed word verification to encourage people to leave me comments  . . . :) uh-oh I can only remember three off the top of my head, but the improvement is tremendous.  thank you.

Live365 widget deleted and Welcome Wednesday!

Welcome all you throngs of new followers, and if you are returning, I am sure that you have noticed this page is loading much faster.  The big offender was the widget for live365, the host for my online station, Funk Sanctum Radio.  I thought the widget would be a cool idea to have here because you could see the album art for each song as it was playing, however, this widget is still on dj Goddessa of Funk Sanctum's Myspace page which has the realt-time-updating live365.com widget.

Here is the first blog-hop for Wednesday . . . there will be more :)

New Happy Music and as many Blog Hops as I could find!

Good morning.  It is amazing that I am able to think of something to write about every day, but my life is interesting.  Just driving to work listening to my station, Funk Sanctum, on my handheld with the use of PocketTunes sublime!  dj Goddessa surprises even me.  Dawn Tallman with "Make A Joyful Noise" got me here today.  Dawn is fantastic, which needs no repeating if you know her.  Nice to meet all you good folks who will find me by this blog hop.  There are going to be more, but just to let the Trailing Tuesday hop know I'm serious, publishing this now . . .

live365.com Contest ending this week

Just a reminder to those of my friends who are very talented there's $1,000 to be had if you upload a video showing "Why you love live365." Wanted to win that money myself but have been blogged bogged down with the blog and the learning curve is still holding steady on editing the videos, but that's another story.

Here is where you can get the details on the contest:

http://www.live365.com/index.live

Good luck.

P.S., it would be awesome if you could mention my wittle station in the video or dj Goddessa told you or something or . . . just dreaming!

Have fun,

Happy #MusicMonday Pepe Soup!

Good Monday Morning,

Have some Pepe Soup for breakfast :))

dj Goddessa here @work sending love and welcoming new visitors and returning family to In-Box Jewels.  It is very nervewracking for me when there's no work, and honestly it has been excruciatingly slow here since January.  Taking advantage of the opportunity to write here in this blog but it is still painful.  They think that I am typing for them, but you know that I am typing for you.  There also does not appear to be any work coming soon because my main hitters are on vacation.  Now would be a great time for me to take a vacation, but can't afford to now.  Oh well!

Since this blog's inception there has been no mention of the agony I have experienced in trying to design this with limited html experience and being a slow computer skills learner.  Having only heard of Google page rank last month (don't laugh), yours truly is scrambling to read everything possible, applying suggestions, and adjusting this and that on this page, and my brain is mushy this morning.  Can't afford to pay someone to design Web page and optimization, so wysiwyg.

There is hope and light at the end of my Internet tunnel:  I visited my djGoddessa of Funk Sanctum Radio page on Facebook and lo, and behold, there is a Google PR of 2!  I have done nothing with that site for years and it has a 2!  All of the feverish work on this blog, In-Box Jewels, and I still have a big, fat goosegg 0.  SMH

Now, better save this so that you can start joining this Monday blog hop:

Will be adding to this as the day goes on . . .

Friday Jewel Video Greenbelt S.I.T.Y. at The DC Armory--Sat., May 8, 2010

Happy Funky Friday, Family,

I was fortunate to watch this video this a.m., and was very anxious to share it with everyone.  Having spent many hours jumping rope as a girl, this brought back double-dutch memories.  Here it is from my friend Cosmicfunkoasis on YouTube.  He said:

"Greenbelt S.I.T.Y. at The DC Armory--Sat., May 8, 2010  -- The AMAZING Halftime entertainment for the DC Roller Girls season ending double-header at The DC Armory (Sat., 5-8-2010). These kids did things with jump ropes that I almost forgot CAN BE DONE. Plus, they set the whole crowd off. Since you
probably couldn't make it, I captured and UPLOADED their whole show. Prepare yourselves."

I agree wholeheartedly!  What do you think, please leave a comment cause these kids inspired me!  (even some great House Music in the background!  This was a halftime for roller derby in DC, i'm going to roller derby today in Long Beach, a little cosmic hehe.

Get Streema Radio Tuner and (Funk Sanctum) Radio in your Blog!

Happy Funky Friday Family,

Today’s the perfect opportunity for me to write about music and Internet Radio because my office manager whom I mentioned to you yesterday is taking a vacation day today!  Oh, no, i'm on my own!!
***happy dance, HAPPY DANCE***

Curious about Funk Sanctum Radio and want to tune in? The main way is directly through live365. Another convenient way to listen on Facebook has been through Streema Online Radio Stations. Streema is an online radio tuner whereby you can listen to any of the free radio stations that broadcast from around the world with just a few clicks in an intuitive web-based platform. Funk Sanctum Radio is already listed in Streema (on the next-to-last page in House), and I am enlisting your helping in improving that ranking.

Register now for this cool free music service, so that you can save your temporary favorites (and be sure to add FUNK SANCTUM RADIO+ to your list. It's safe, fast, and (again) FREE. :)

The Streema Radio Widget is finally here! This was their official announcement on May 12:

“Today we are reeeeaaally happy to announce we’ve released the first version of the Streema Widget!! This has been one of the most requested features, so we hope you really enjoy it!  The widget enables anybody to grab a simple piece of code from our site and bring radio into your blog, website or social profile. In order to play a radio, it calls up a pop-up player (very similar to the one used in our application for Facebook Pages), so that people can continue browsing your site while enjoying a great station chosen by you. . ..”

You can include Funk Sanctum Radio by your own dj Goddessa (me) to your favorites and share your recommendations! Check out how it works right here in this blog post. (to grab the code for this station, go here). If you want to select another radio station, just go to the Streema radio directory, go to a station’s profile, and once there, click on “Get this Radio Widget.”  Thank you so much for your support.  Enjoy your weekend and don't forget to share some love today!

Woah, how did that widget separate?  I was trying to center the whole thing and just the "Listen" part and this text is now centered.  The top part of the widget remained flush left.  A "little" knowledge is a dangerous thing !!!

Have a Fantastic Funky Friday!
Love,
Me

Osunlade Presents Nadirah Shakoor ("Pride") Back to Africa Mix

Well, your dj was going to write about the song my nephew sent me, Caribou "Odessa" but when I was on YouTube I found this in my subscriptions and I love my home boy, Osunlade (St. Louis twice in one day) and Nadirah Shakoor put down great vocals on this so it comes to you highly recommended. :)

My First Keyboard!

I found this picture today at Mr. Typewriter.com, which incidentally is located in my hometown, St. Louis, Missouri.  He gets the credit for the picture . . . my Quiet Riter is no longer in my possession, *boo-hoo.*
Dang, Ain't She Pretty!

My first journalistic enterprise ideas came to me after I had just received my first typewriter, a "portable" Remington Quiet Riter. As I was the trendsetter in my neighborhood my best friend, Clara Mayes, asked her parents for the same typewriter. My idea was to start a newpaper about events in our class and elementary school. We typed it with three columns, three carbon copies, cut the columns and passed out the little slips of "news." The $.05 subscriptions were obtained from my classmates after passing out samples of what was to come. This was 1959. I was in the seventh grade, but I cannot remember what we called our paper. Subscriptions went great. I would either take my "portable" Quiet Riter to Clara's house or she would bring hers to mine. We would write the article and then type the same thing in three columns with as many carbon copies as would come through (5 or 6 was questionable!) until we wrote about Calvin Banks (who was most of the time in trouble), the details of his punishment and offense. When he read it he signaled to me from across the room his "finger slicing the neck" move and gave me the stank eye. I immediately broke down in tears at my desk. Of course the teacher called me outside and after counseling and calming me down suggested the newspaper cease. I thought that was drastic but agreed and she told Calvin he better not bother me. End of that story. I could type 90 wpm by freshman high school year and my typing teacher told my father that he did not have to worry because i would always be able to get a job. So i was cruising at 125-130 by the time i graduated from high school and the rest is history--have always had a job!  I am a world-class typist with proof, but cannot divulge my real name here if you want to live.

My current worklife is like I have a brand new job, but I did not leave my pesent firm. No, yours truly did not get the promotion, the little "whoras" did. Our office manager who had been here for 18 years has now moved to the Midwest. The secretary to the Senior Partner was promoted to Office Manager. She brings her recently-graduated-from-junior-high daughter in to work every day. It is really a juicy story but maybe someone might actually read this.

Keeping my fingers busy :)

Me

Today is Summer Solstice 2010 – First day of summer officially. And today is 2010 Lakers NBA Championship Parade. If you don't know, LA Lakers won the NBA Finals on Thursday night, beating the Boston Celtics 83-79. Thousands of fans are expected in downtown Los Angeles on the celebrations.

Official victory parade begins at 11am PST expecting up to 2 million fans on the two blocks of South Figueroa Street. Live coverage begins on CBS 2 and KCAL 9 at 10 a.m. Watch Lakers Parade 2010 Live coverage on CBS 2 and KCAL 9.

Official route is from the Staples Center, traveling south on Figueroa Street to Jefferson Boulevard, where the parade turns east to end at the Galen Center. It’s the team’s 16th championship title.  I work down the street and it is amazing how many people were already lined up on Fig at 6:00 when i arrived.  I attended the parade last year but today i will just watch simulcast.  I will go to the Sparks parade however!

Happy Funky Friday & Funk Sanctum Full of New Music!

Happy Follow Friday, and when I start my blog hop it will be called Funky Friday Follows!

Funk Sanctum Radio is a happy place, especially today as we are celebrating the LAKERS, BA-BEEES!  You all knew I was a Laker fan, right?  Oh, you say we just met.  Well, I am in L.A. and a big Sparks fan as well.  It is quiet here still at work and surely my coworkers will be staggering in later than usual today.  Congratulations to the Lakers and us the big fans.  I wish I knew the name of Ron Artest's therapist, she must be stellar, and her work is definitely effective because he was a crazy MF!

However, I want to get this posted with the first two bloghops and will be adding others and giving more details of the new house music added to Funk Sanctum.

In Love Again - Andy Compton feat Diviniti

Greetings and Salutations,

Your dj could possibly be getting the "big head" because I feel like I have reached a new milestone in my dj career. The PR company AheadPR invited ME to join. Do you know what that means? I no longer have to beg each and every artist or label to send me mp3's. Now simply sign in my account and sample away.

Did you hear that Andy Compton released a solo LP? It was back in May but I was just invited to join AheadPR so I am just getting it. Better late than never I always say, and if it's a goodie, you know your dj will have it in rotation until the cows come home. I have always loved The Rurals and if I do not hear Marie Tweek's voice on a regular basis, I go into withdrawals. It does not say specifically who is singing the vocals on this album and I suspect it is not Marie, but engaging nonetheless. If someone can get back at me on that information, this post will be corrected accordingly.

I will be streaming this albun in its entirety tomorrow; however, today my favorites are in rotation. Where? Funk Sanctum Internet Radio, of course! Push play, push yourself back from that computer, lift off that computer chair and dance with me.... :)

Love,
Me

Here All Along by Bryan Ford featuring Ava Fain is out now!

"Gritty, moody, bluesy and soulful are the words that have been used to describe Here All Along by Bryan Ford featuring Ava Fain. Bryan Ford, co-owner of Revolutionary Music, wrote and played every instrument on this gorgeous song (guitar, bass, slide guitar)," and I am plaesed to announce this song is playing now in Funk Sanctum Radio.  I don't know if i am more excited about the new releases you will find in Funk Sanctum or the fact that  was invited to join AheadPR and am now getting all these wonderful promos to review of my favorite genre--electronic and house music!  It's on now, babees.  You know your dj cannot afford to keep my stream legal AND buy music.  It is really time-saving that now i don'th have to beg each artist/label to send me promos.  That gets old fast, plus many independent unknown artists who used to service Funk Sanctum are now famous and signed!

I am loving the sound and am looking forward to your feedback on them, family!  Stay funky and share some love today.

Roller Derby and Marketing Monday

What a grand weekend we're having and still trying to stretch it out over here!  The sports were all exciting.  The Derby Dolls was so much fun and the L.A. Sparks won.  Check out the L.A. Derby Dolls!  First time ever attending live roller derby event, but will not be my last.  Healthy, inexpensive food choices.  Great big beers and wine, affable crowd and my Life Partner won the Raffle: "Black Label" Dead Poet Series special skateboard and  t-shirt (I got that) out of the millions (seemed like)  in attendance.  She's so lucky!

In the meantime, share some love today!

Cubic Zirconia- Black & Blue Official Video!

Happy Friday!

Welcome new followers.  This is my first sports-related blog, so don't be discouraged but can't stop dreaming of all the sports that will be filling my weekend--not active, mind you.  Who else has FIFA World Cup Fever?  I do.  Can't wait to see as much of the games as possible.  I would have given my eye teeth to be in South Africa right now.  The Anthems will be in rotation in Funk Sanctum soon.

Tomorrow we are going to my-first-time-ever event women's roller derby.  That's right!  I said Women's Roller Derby!  Can I get a double woot??  Maybe some of you remember watching from your mother's knee?  One of my guilty passions as a young girl, so tomorrow will be cheering on the L.A. Derby Dolls.  It will be attending the Los Angeles Aftershockers v. Arizona Derby Dames, Sat. June 12, 2010, 1910 W. Temple St., L.A., CA.  derbydolls.com/la . . . Yeah, baby!

Sunday going to Staples Center to L.A. Sparks v. Minnesota at 12:00--will be attending and am VIP of the Sparks.  They don't need a link (wink).  And of course the Lakers v. the Smeltics later on that day! Bring it!

Meanwhile, this is definitely worth a listen . . .

Woot!

Also, Happy Friday, and again welcome all new followers.  Have you heard this yet?

dj Spooky Free Download

Greetings,

Today's "Jewel" -- free download from dj Spooky
DJ Spooky and Chuck D (Public Enemy) -- Remix of By the Time I Get to Arizona

CLICK HERE TO LISTEN AND DOWNLOAD THE TRACK

"In the wake of Republican Governor Jan Brewer's appalling anti-immigrant law, me and Chuck D were rappin' and we decided to put together an update of his classic track By The Time I get To Arizona. Anyone who knows about hip hop from the early 90's remembers John McCain's unwillingness to endorse creating a local version of Martin Luther King's birthday. The update here is a 21st century look in the rear view mirror. The cliché that "those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it" still holds sway in our hyper amnesiac culture. I remixed D.W. Griffith's infamous film Birth of a Nation with a bit of Public Enemy in mind, and later on, they named an e.p. with the same name as my project. Me and Chuck D have done several projects in the past around progressive, non knucklehead hip hop.
Please feel free to download this track and pass it around. We are the media. Feel free to pass it around!
By the way, this is a mashup, and it's basically not really for sale. I just took a riff from Philly Sound (http://www.funkadelphiarecords.com/), and flipped it. The result, is what you hear here. It's free, and open. No $!!  in peace, Paul aka DJ Spooky"
I love dj Spooky.  The more famous he becomes, the more he gives!  You can meet him through this video:

Enjoy, love,
Me

Tuesday Tag-Along Woo-Hoo

Listener (Fan) E-Mail "In-Box Jewel" :)

Greetings,

This blog, In-Box Jewels, was born after I realized:  (1) blogs are free; (2) the possibility of monetizing this site while continuing to remain a commercial-free station; (3) I could maintain my anonymity whilst baring my soul and blogging off-subject on company time; and (4) getting and sharing the Holy Spirit through music, art, love and fun.  Last week I told my office manager I did not clock in because there was no work.  She told me “Never do that again. It is not your problem that there is no work here. In the future clock in.”  I was going to argue with her this could be construed as dishonest but quickly came to my senses and enthusiastically simply replied “okay.” Hence, here I sit sharing with you guilt-free, dear readers, my heart and "In-Box Jewels"  from Funk Sanctum Internet Radio and djGoddessa’s In-Box.

As many of you know, I recently experienced a big fat financial loss like some of you. When considering how to streamline my budget to survive these times, my little hobby station since 1990, Funk Sanctum Internet Radio, topped my list of not being necessary for my survival on this planet, closing the station was my logical next step. As fate would have it, however, I received this letter from a fan (or possibly someone from live365.com who could “smell” they could not be getting those monthly fees from me):

 “Hey Sis-
I've been listening to [you] off and on for a very long time on Live365. (I think I found you '02, or '03). I've watched you evolved and I LOVE where you're at now. I can't tell how much your program means to me. It's almost as important as the air that I breath. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR KEEPING IT BLACK AND FUNKY.
                                                                     God Bless,
                                                                     Khepfere”   (Emphasis in original.)

How can I shut down Funk Sanctum after receiving this e-mail?  My programming means something to someone and is healing someone other than myself, so I now feel a renewed obligation to continue.  This e-mail from “Khepfere” (who I do not know and cannot find and has not subsequently written me) inspired me to create some buzz around Funk Sanctum Internet Radio and djGoddessa.  Who knows?  Maybe I will even get a sponsor who will continue to let me play my personal favorites in Underground Spiritual House Music, Intelligent Dance, Independent and/or Unsigned Artists, Techno, World Music, Psychedelic Jazz, R&B, Funk, Electronic, Urban, House Music and Dance Music.

The main theme of Funk Sanctum Internet Radio is NO COMMERCIALS!  You will never hear interruptions by advertisers. There will never be pledge drives. You will never hear anyone begging for money. Actually, you will never, ever hear me. What you will hear is commercial-free PURE MUSIC, so clear the furniture, turn up your speakers, click play, and dance with me.

“Why is a commercial-free station important and how can you do that, dj Goddessa?” you ask.

           dj Goddessa responds:

“I pay more for a "Pro" account whereby the stream's content, and live365.com cannot throw ads in. Secondly, Funk Sanctum is 100% legal thereby paying all royalties, fees, etc., I am actually giving back to the music community and supporting the individual musicians and artists.”

It is now 7:17 a.m., here.  The head file clerk just walked by my desk. She thought I was working because she heard these keys banging. She does not even think it strange that I have a big smile on my face even though the work here is hardly ever funny!

It is now 7:28 a.m., and the office manager has arrived. I have got to keep these fingers typing. The building’s air conditioner just kicked in. Turning on my personal heater under my desk (against the rules). Trying to be an upstanding, law-abiding citizen, but some of the manmade rules and laws seem impossible for anyone to follow. How can I type with frozen fingers? Speaking of rules, I guess the main insane rule here is no personal use of the Internet!  (LMAO)

I am inviting you to subscribe to this blog, In-Box Jewels. where we will be getting and sharing the Holy Spirit through music, art, love and fun. Also, please let me know how you think I am progressing.  If you enjoy discovering independent, underground music, spiritual house music, intelligent dance, unsigned artists, World Music, psychedelic jazz, R&B, Urban, etc., etc., in a commercial-free setting, join us in djGoddessa's Funk Sanctum Radio, streaming 24/7 on the Internet and on your personal handheld!  Use me. Share me. Join me. But most importantly, stay in the love and remember to share some love today!

Love,
Me

Help, please...

Hello,

I am too frustrated to check my In-Box now and am so frustrated with this page.  Can someone tell me why this page is now trying to have pop-ups on its own?  Then if i say allow popups, it is a blank page.  ??? How did that happen and where did that come from?  I want to curse publicly.

Then, if that is not enough, what happened to Feedjit?  Now that's not working either on my page.  Is it down all around?  Is there anyone out there who can help me with my page?  Definitely makes me want to delete everything and start over.  Please help me if you are able.

LOL, i deleted Feedjit and now do not have that popup thingie. lol-lol :))

Has anyone else who has used Feedjit experienced this problem?

Now, on to the fun stuff:  HAPPY FRIDAY, FAMILY!

needing your vote!

Dear Family,

Please do not sleep on this one because we only have a few days left of voting.  Today's Jewel from my In-Box is from my main man, Teddy Presberg, guitarist and improvisational composer, who always holds an honored place in Funk Sanctum Radio and my heart.  He says:

"I'm honored to be nominated by the Riverfront Times as the Jam Artist of the Year in Saint Louis. (mainly because i love peanut butter) . . . It would mean a lot if you could take 1 minute of your time and vote for me at this online ballot."

Teddy needs our votes by June 5th! So please hurry and share the news with a friend!
All you need is a valid email address and you don't need to be from Saint Louis to vote.
You can also write him in for "Best Live Band" and my album "Outcries from a Sea of Red" for "Best Album."
